I finished my biggest piece ever last month. A piece I had no intention of starting, let alone finishing.
Kicking off the year with some positive procrastination, I tackled some chaotic hotspots - starting with my studio drawers and, more crucially, my reference photos.
Like any wildlife artist, I collect reference photos like a magpie - gathering inspiration for future animal artworks from all sorts of places. Sometimes, I’ll stumble across one and feel an irresistible pull to create my version of it.
While sifting through the hundreds (thousands?!) of photos I’d captured and saved in all sorts of places, I found an absolute stunner I don’t even remember saving.
And, in the best of unplanned ways, I simply had to draw her.
She’s just returned from her professional photography shoot, so what better way to launch my first proper Studio Snapshots post than by sharing her here?
